After many difficulties and some hours later than planned, Djavi finally arrived. He is very calm and explores the room, the duckboards and the garden. Quibus avoids him and if he does come very close, she growls and blows. Thia is barely seen, but makes use of the same arsenal as Quibus. Yottum doesn't really know what he should do. He keeps some distance and growls. All three of them remain fairly quiet. Robbyn reacts the worst. He growls, grunts and wails and keeps as much distance as possible. He refuses to come in in the evening and when I go to get him, he struggles to break free. Unfortunately, while he wails so loud, Quibus' fuses blow. She attacks Thia with all its consequences. So I pick up Quibus and put her in the corridor. Then looked up Thia outside and put her in the back room. Then picked up Robbyn from among the plants and put him in the back room as well. Then lifted Yottum of the TV cabinet and put him into the back room too. Where is Zohra? She is hidden under the table, but fortunately comes straight to my outstretched hand. She also goes to the back room. Djavi sat and watched all and as I give him a bowl of kibble, he finally eats. He had already drank and used the litter tray. Glad he would eat now. After one last pat, I leave him alone. Robbyn wails and still will not be patted. The others are reserved, but I can stroke them. Then went to see if Quibus has cooled off. Fortunately that is the case, though she is somewhat restless. Cautiously I let her into the back room. She hardly responds, so it's really all right. Now all doors between the bedroom, the bathroom, the toilet and the corridor are opened. For the first time in a long time I go upstairs alone. The first one that comes up is Quibus. She comes for a pat and then lies on the foot end of the bed. After her Yottum comes up, he walks around and then lies down in his basket. Only when I put off the light, I see that Zohra is laying on her own spot. Robbyn is nowhere in sight. Sunday, July 10th 2005. Woke up early again, though Zoortje didn't report until it was around 8 o'clock. Below, I first greeted all cats, but Rob is still restless. I don't want things to escalate, so I go prepare breakfast. Rob slips into the living room and when he sees Djavi, he begins to wail again. Fortunately he comes into the kitchen and I keep him aside. Like yesterday only Quibus and Yottum eat their food. From Thia I'm used to her not eating under stress. Zohra surprised me by refusing to eat again. In the kitchen Robbyn is eating a few pieces on top of the cupboard while wailing. Soon I open the the kitchen door and the window in the back room. More space and less stress. After my own breakfast, I have time for Djavi. I pick him up and put him on my lap. Cuddling and stroking he finds delicious and to my surprise I get a few strong butts from him. He also throbs deliciously. Mid noon Djavi is sleeping and I walk outside to search for Robbyn. He comes to me and it seems that he has missed our contact, just like me. After a hesitant start I can cuddle him firmly. All of a sudden he sniffs my arm where Djavi had been laying. Immediately he starts to wail again. I let a grass blade move on that spot and fortunately he wants to play. The wailing drops but doesn't disappears completely. In the evening only the "oldies" eat normally and Thia (finally) eats on the cupboard. Zohra is willing to take a few bites outside. I try to persuade Robbyn, but I "smell" too much of Djavi and he refuses. Even when I leave it and walk away, too bad. When I go to him an hour later with some food in my hand to see if he will eat it, Quibus comes after me. With her so close, Robbyn doesn't want anything. Suddenly Djavi comes running toward us. Immediately Rob's wailing sounds again, but this time he doesn't run away. I continue to talk to Quibus so she won't interfere. Fortunately she pulls back and leaves the boys alone. When Robbyn stays close to Djavi and even follows him occasionally, I praise him and go inside. They can best solve this together. Djavi stays outside the remainder of the evening, often near his big brother. While he still has concerns about that, he isn't whining. I think that's great progress. When I call them inside for the night, Robbyn comes along by himself. Unfortunately, he sees Djavi walking around soon afterwards and he growls / whines a bit. Quickly I send him to the back room. Quibus follows herself and I put Yottum in after them. Thia I must lift of the cupboard and then she goes there too. Then the doors must be opened. Five cats in a small room is just asking for trouble. All goes well. Djavi gets a bowl of food and a pat, then I pull back. A few times he complains by the door, but soon he stops. Robbyn is the first to come upstairs, a little shy, but soon more sure of himself. We cuddle again like old times. He seems very much calmed down, but we aren't there yet. Monday July 11th 2005. Fed the cat gang separated in the back room this morning. Went reasonably well. Then opened the door toward the living room, where Djavi was waiting for some attention. The others hiss or growl a bit and Robbyn whines a bit. Opened the kitchen door and the window and the gang went outside. I find it amazing how calm Djavi is. I hadn't expected anything else on the first day, but yesterday and again today he is very calm. He goes out on adventures, tries to catch flies, explores the garden bit by bit and is totally unimpressed by all the growling and hissing of the others. He is, however, quite talkative, especially when he can't find me. He also plays very carefully. That means that he does use his claws and teeth, but that he tries very hard not to hurt me with them. Don't know who taught him that, but I'm grateful. When I walked through the garden today, I could stroke all cats, including Robbyn. Even a cuddle was fine by him. But if he suddenly smells Djavi's oder, than he whines a bit and keeps at a distance. After a little while we can go on though. Both Quibus and Yottum have taken a chance to sniff out Djavi today. That's usually followed by a growl or hiss, but that seems to be it. Sat with 3 Burmese today. All within a square meter. Robbyn hisses a bit and steps aside when Djavi comes too close. But that's all. Things seem to slowly get more relaxed. At night all ate at their usual place. Even Robbyn, although he needed a bit encouragement. Djavi ate well too. The silly man eats way to little. When I come down in the morning, there is still kibble in his bowl and he doesn't want new kibble. At lunchtime he's not interested either. Even yesterday evening he hardly ate. Now I'm glad he does. I can't believe he is ready for only two meals a day just yet. Later that evening I see Djavi chasing Robbyn in the garden. He is not amused by that of course, but he doesn't really avoid him either. That's a good sign. Tuesday July 12th 2005. Decided to cheat today. When I went downstairs I opened all the doors and gave the cats their breakfast. They all ate it in their own place actually and Djavi ate well again. Then I left the kitchen door and the window closed. If I give Robbyn the chance, he will keep on avoiding Djavi. Now his evasive behavior is somewhat restricted. I almost never hear his whining anymore, it is now a combination of a whine-growl and every now and again a hiss. Although Robbyn tries to keep his distance, he has (finally) become curious. Very carefully he occasionally takes a step closer and tries to sniff. Djavi doesn't mind. He sometimes jumps toward Robbyn, who hisses then of course and runs away. But ever so fast he is back again to take another look. I don't think it will long before they will approach each other. It isn't until mid-afternoon that I open the kitchen door. Robbyn was sleeping upstairs. We cuddled a bit and then I persuaded him to come with me. He doesn't want a lift on my shoulders, but he follows me down the stairs. He's happy he can go outside. Now Robbyn is becoming more relaxed, I notice that Zohra is too. She lets Djavi come quite close, before she hisses at him. And that doesn't sound any worse than: "leave me alone sonny". I'm confident now that things will be alright. That was very different last Saturday. I had never thought that my most relaxed male would make such a commotion. One can be amazed! Wednesday July 13th 2005. Last night non of the cats were separated and there have been no problems. Halfway into the night Djavi found his way to my bed. Robbyn who happened to be following him, called out loud that there was a strange fellow in my (his) bed. I thought that was slightly overreacted, but could laugh at the situation. After getting up I made breakfast and it seems that everyone is eating normally. Then I cleaned the litter trays, gave the cats a treat and told them to be nice to one and other. Then left the house, I have to try that at sometime. When I came home every cat was dozing nicely and was still in one piece. I praised them all and opened the door to the garden. Before I went to bed, I saw Djavi receiving his first washing. He sat drinking when Zohra sniffed him and licked him over his head a few times. Undisturbed as he is, Djavi continued to drink. On the bed I cuddled with Robbyn. When Djavi jumped on the bed there is a pause, Robbyn doesn't trust things yet. Then Djavi starts to wash himself and Robbyn comes closer, sniffs and licks him over the head. Djavi considers that an invitation and puts his paws around Robbyn. For a moment time stands still and then Robbyn taps his brother. There even follows a mini-wrestling, but then Robbyn gets scared again and runs off. Ever so soon he's back again and looks at things from a little distance. Djavi spent practically the whole night at my side. He often tried to wash my face, but I was a |
