Sunday February 12th 2006. Mirre is very quiet. She eats the beef with taste, but she isn't as lively anymore. She is sniffling again and her eyes are teary. Every time I see that, I wipe them dry. We'll go to Douwe tomorrow for a check up, maybe she needs some antibiotics. And if she'll only eat meat, I needs supplemental vitamins and minerals for her. Monday February 13th 2006. Phoned the vets practice this morning. Douwe is on holiday, bummer. Made an appointment for Mirre that afternoon anyway. Tomorrow morning I can bring Djavi for his castration and pick him up after four o'clock. Put Mirre in the pet carrier that afternoon, Djavi came immediately to see what was going on. In the car she is meowing her heart out, in protest of course. At the vets we have to wait unfortunately, what do they mean "on appointment only"? Once inside we weight Mirre: 1450 grams. That is a lot of weight loss. The vet on duty tries to listen to her lungs, but she's purring so loud that it takes a while. They sound clean. The vet suspects an inflammation in the upper respiratory area. She receives an antibiotics mix per injection and some drops for at home, 2 times a day 7,5 ml. I also receive a can of concentrates and a large tablet of vitamins and minerals. I can chop off peaces, put them in water and mix that with the minced beef. That way she will get all the necessary nutrients. At home I open the can, Mirre hovers it all up. For her next meal I mix some of it up with a bit of kibble, we'll see if she'll eat that. At night she takes it all in. The kibble is sucked clean and spat out. Little pigheaded monster! Tuesday February 14th 2006. After getting up I put Djavi in a pet carrier and brought him to the vets. Since I was there anyway, I bought hypoallergenic food for Thia and 3 more cans of that good stuff for Mirre. It's all adding up to be a nice bill. Back home I fed all and ate something myself too. It may be chickenhearted, but if one of them needs to fast, I just can't feed the others or eat myself. Mirre does eat the kibble now. It's the last thing she eats, but she eats them. She is also getting more active. That's so nice to see. When I collect Djavi, he meows to me immediately. All went well, they said, so lets go home! There I let him out of the carrier. As soon as he is out, he tries to climb in me. I pick him up and as groggy as he is, he starts washing my nose. Silly boy. Then he walks around a bit. He keeps returning to the radiator, so I put down a basket there, put him in it and place a towel over him. For a moment he remains sitting. But as soon as I sit down on the couch, he comes to me and climbs on my lap. There he falls asleep. At dinnertime he comes to the kitchen with me. Apparently he's hungry. I give hem a little bit of food. I don't want him to get sick and spit it all out. He decides it's not enough and dives into Robbyn's food bowl. I put him on the ground, where he walks to the radiator and lies down on the hassock. Just as soon as I'm back on the couch, he comes to me again. Mirre washes his face. That's the first time I see her do that.I make sure she stays well away from his bottom and isn't too pushy. During the evening Djavi attacks Mirre three times and I'm puzzled why. If he attacks he gives a short loud scream, just to doze off afterwards. Later on Zohra lies down beside him and gives him a good wash. After some time Robbyn takes over. The rest of the evening Djavi sleeps a lot. When I go upstairs he seems quite bright again. He tries to play with Mirre, but she's much too fast for him. Wednesday February 15th 2006. Djavi withdraws himself a bit and sleeps a lot. Apparently he needs some extra time. Mirre on the other hand is getting more and more active. She races through the room and chases Zohra and Robbyn. They run off semi-angry. When they've had really enough, they retire on top of the cupboards. Without them Mirre is able to amuse herself just fine too. Every time I walk to the kitchen, Mirre follows me meowing loudly. She wants food, now! As long as I mix her food 50-50%, she eats the kibble too. But I have to prepare it one meal in advance. The kibble becomes soft then and absorbs some of the flavors of the meat. First I want her to be back on the right weight, then we'll try to cut down on the meat. Thursday February 16th 2006. This afternoon I saw Mirre and Robbyn play for the first time. Thought she was only chasing him, but they were playing tags. Then they wrestled for a moment. It didn't last long, for suddenly Robbyn got scared and took off. Still, we're getting there. |
